Maine Smelt Fishing
The Smelt camps opened up in Maine this weekend. I reserved a few for the club but it looks like I will have a couple left...if anybody wants in for a night of smelt fishing drop me a PM. the cost runs $15 for the shack and then bait is extra.
On your own to get there
Pretty good time for those who have never been. Sit around with friends have a couple of beers and talk Chit most of the night.
We will be up at Sonny's Smelt camp in Dresden ME from Friday 11:30 PM til 6:00 AM on Saturday
Just let me know if you want in

Are the shacks heated with kerosene or wood?
And tackle/gear recommendations would be awesome...

Way over analyzing But I wouldn't expect anything less
You can actually show up with nothing and use the House lines.
I just use my ice fishing rod and a small swedish pimple or small ice fishing jig. Sometimes I use half of a sabiki to throw an extra couple of hooks down the hole...but not necessary.
Bring a bucket, some food, and some beverages and relax

Hi all, Just a little info. Cabelas s having a local sale up here tomorrow. Almost sounds like a closing sale. Some items as much as 400 off the goin price to include high end fly rods and gun stuff. so it may be worth a detour on your way home n the mornng. Also the coffee pot wll be on f you need a pit stop. I'm off the Saco exit if interested. 207-423-7864 if you need. Ron

We were crushing them we caught just over 150 and we cooked about 2-3 dozen in da skillet pan with olive oil, garlick flower/salt.Man it was friggin incredible eats and also an awesome first time experience.
The temp was a balmy 6 degrees out side but 70ish in the cabin.
Kevin aka TDF thank's for lining things up,had a great time and it was a pleasure to meet you, your Dad,brother in-law and brother.
Thanks again!

nice - glad it went well. i'm gonna try and get up one night this week. take dominic on his first trip. some of my fav memories as a kid were smelting. we would go down to "a" st docks with the family in the middle of the night. lanterns, bamboo poles and a box of shrimp. when the mackeral would push through - you'd think you hooked a tuna. good times
