Part of my basement remodel will be to finally give up my quite excellent Polk Audio SDA 2-B speakers. Yes they're big and really suck up the juice but don't fit into the new plan. If you have a good amp and want something unique for speakers let me know as they will be sold.

Has anyone done some research on compact home audio lately? Perhaps thinking something unobtrusive for general music and movies. I'll be gutting the room and plan to install some cable races so I can wire surround speakers...

No budget at this time. Plan to use my existing LG tv mounted to a wall.

Interesting, I see the Soundbar uses the same SDA technology my old speakers have. Mine have a third cable that connects the two speakers for the wave cancelling drivers. I'll say this, when you're in the sweet spot the stereo separation is incredible and you can hear things behind you.

Outside of the sweet spot they're just great speakers. 6 ohm, 12" passive radiator and nearly flat to 20 hertz. They can thump...

I recently heard these in our showroom and was blown away. I've heard hundreds of different speakers in my time and these are by far the best I have ever heard in this category. Plus they go over really well with the wife because they don't take up a lot of space. I do this for a living Spence so feel free to get in touch with me if you want advice. I could arrange for you to listen to these as well. You'd just have to make a trip to Rockland. We have McIntosh amplifiers and processors powering our Kef Reference series floor standers. Clean, crisp, and very listenable at all levels.

We have a Bose and love it, however, my go to system for serious listening is a Yamaha receiver, Bang and Olufsen turntable and Infinity speakers. I can shake the gutters with this system. I have over 6000 albums from the 60s and 70s and regularly listen to a lot of them

Bose is the "Ugly Stick" of the audio world. But hey not everyone can afford Van Staal either. Bose has some good stuff but there is so much better out there in similar price points if you do your homework. Don't get me going about Yamaha.....I'm glad you like yours. Spence if you want a free expert opinion on brands give me a call. There's a lot of so called do it yourself experts out there and there's a lot of different manufacturers claiming to be the next best innovator. We work with proven manufacturers that have a solid track record for realiablity and performance. The ironic thing about Bose is we have 2 top execs as clients and we sure as hell didn't install Bose products for their theaters.

I think I need to set myself a budget limit. Also want to put a decent treadmill in after the job and that will eat up a lot of $$$.

MC, PM me your cell and I'll give you a ring in a few weeks. Definitely could use some advice on how to make the install clean considering the walls and ceiling will be down as well as some price to performance recommendations.

I'm not a Bose hater at all but would agree there are better options. Bose does fill a niche for people who want simplicity and decent performance. There's a price premium for sure but there always is with well marketed brands. I love my Bose ear buds...

You can trade a couple double cheese burgers for a decent treadmill. Treadmills have a pretty low resale value. Clist a year old one for 1/8-1/4 of the price.

Well said about Bose. PM sent with my cell. I'm coming from an integration standpoint about BOSE and they have good stand alone solutions that do sound good. It's when you want to add more integration with other systems like lighting control, video sources, etc that it falls down with it propieitary wiring and controls.

thats the problem I had with Bose. I bought a stand alone unit and was really impressed with the sound. However I need to power external speakers throughout my home and the system couldnt do it.
I built my own system with a pioneer receiver and a speaker control box. works/sounds great

Spence if you're not looking for the latest greatest thing but want something that sounds decent I have the Sony Blu-ray dvd/theater system BDV-E370.Great for smaller areas(my living room is tiny!) and really does sound good for what you get.And its easy to setup...except it does not come with either an HDMI or Optical cable,I figured that out when I finally opened up the manual.
