Boston Whaler 50 hp, HELPPPPPP

Hey guys, i just picked up a score of a boat, a old blue inside 17ft whaler that is in decent shape for a great price on a trailer. The boat has been out of water for 6 years a and seems pretty dry ( not water logged) I was wondering if you think a 2002 honda BF50 wolld push the boat effectivly. Im not looking for speed more of reliabilty and fuel eco.
I am thinking that this motor with the right prop will do 24-28 mph? Am i dreaming?

i dont think you are far off. as long as it has enough power to get on plane id call it good. I dont have a whaler so i'm guessing. whats max hp on it?

With 3 guys and gear you'll have to have the guys take a step or two to get the weight to shift forward to get on plane but once there it'll be fine

For the sake of looking at this from a different angle, find out what the recommended max hp. is and stay close to that. I would opt to have more power than I need and hopefully never use it. But it's there if/when the chite hits the fan and you need the power.

I know one thing you will love the fuel economy on the Honda 50HP. I Have a Honda bf50A on my 16 ft maxum bowrider that I converted to a fishing platform up front and I'll tell you you can fish all day and troll on about 5 gallons of gas. Two years ago I put the boat in the water by the battleship in Fall River and took it out past Sakonnet point to the light house and made it back to the the boat ramp on about almost 5 gallons of gas. Per my chart that's about 40 miles or so round trip......not to bad!!!!
