EPO'S
I was fishing the canal, and noticed a couple of people 50' feet from me fishing bait. Not there 15 minutes, and 2 real short stripers are in there 5 gallon bucket. I yell over to them that they are short fish, but he says "I donts care, I be eating dem". I called the EPO'S #, and to my surprise they were there in 20 minutes. As soon as the boys saw the EPO drive by, they dumped the dead fish. he EPO went down and asked questions and and did all he could.. I was very impressed and happy to see them there doing thier job.. Just a big THANK YOU, to them.. Thanks..

They should police that area during the more agressive fish runs, they should put up a station @ a few places like the googan run and routinely patrol it, the money the state could make would save us from paying for licenses

It doesn't help that the workers from the guard shack building tell people pushing the pier that they can keep any fish that they catch.

Wonder had you taken a bunch of cell phone pictures that would have been enough for the epos to write them up ?

Wish more of us would grow some balls and call more of these scumbags out. Nice job. I've been done with the 'turn a blind eye' mindset for a few years now. Poachers suck.
For those interested, the EPO number I have is 800-632-8075. It gets you though to the EPO dispatcher. FTR, I 'usually' give the offender a chance to do the right thing - if possible.

The sad thing about these sort of threads is that there is so much anger about some one breaking the law and keeping short fish, when legally killing and keeping large fish does more harm to the fishery.
If you are upset about someone breaking a law, fine.
If you are upset about someone hurting the fishery and release the large breeder fish you catch, fine.
If you are upset about someone hurting the fishery, yet keep the largest fish you catch, you need to re-examine your own actions.

So why not make that a separate thread and a second and separate issue. Keeping shorts is not OK. It's that simple.

Sorry! I disagree with this statement.
The sad thing about these sort of threads is that there is so much anger about someone breaking the law and keeping short fish, when legally killing and keeping large fish does more harm to the fishery.
To each his own I say. Thats what fishing is all about!!!
For the other poster EPO are the Environmental Police!
I appreciate the EPO number posted.
One must remember that the shortages of Stripers in the past was due to this.
People eat them!!!
It was always a way of life up north here to be under some kind of regulation.
One fish limit, two fish limit. Protect a particular size class of Striper.
Being that said it was always sad to send the short and legal size fish back so that down south of us we had folks who were grandfathered in to net them at 16 inches an up and take all they wanted.
I have seen a boat when I was fishing from shore take some 30 plus undersize fish. I hollered out to them only to have them respond by giving me the finger.
This was before EPO days. This was also in the days when the fish were in great danger. I called the game wardens and was told they, due to under staffing and time constraints no one could come.
I gave them the boat numbers and was told it wouldn’t do any good.
Every race no matter which one knowingly, illegally take shorts.
I say don’t warn them! Burn them and burn them hard.
I still don’t think this presents a danger to the fish as much as the seals are doing.
This is the present and future danger to the fish today.
Folks think they are cute. Whites think they taste good. But than Whites think everything with blood pumping through it taste good.
This is a quote from the link below.
: It is widely known that seals eat between 6%-8% of their body weight in fish per day. Which doesn’t seem like all that much. Now let’s scale it a bit. How much fish will 10,000 seals eat in a day? Well, if those 10,000 seals weigh 500 pounds each, they would consume 350,000 lbs. of fish per day or 2.45 million pounds of fish per week.
How many pounds of fish does a seal eat per day? - CapeLinks Cape CodHow many pounds of fish does a seal eat per day? - CapeLinks Cape Cod
Don’t ticket them fine them! It’s the only way they will adhere to the law.
Second offence make it stiffer and harsher.

I called them a few weeks ago on a guy who had 3 fish on a stringer in the water at his feet. At least one of the fish was clearly short of legal, nevemind having more than he could legally keep and having them on a stringer. I gave the EPO the exact location, including pole # and they said they were gonna send someone right down. I didn't stick around to see if they showed, but a little while later I called the CG on a boat that was fishing right out in the middle of the canal. They said they were going to send somone out, but I didn't see anything for at least 20 minutes while the douche kept setting up his drifts.

Anyone that knows Soups knows he's harmless and dedicated to trying to help protect the striper species. He has helped me and others learn. It seems like he even goes as far as removing hooks from his lures in order to not catch. I see his post was in capital letters, I assure you he was not "yelling" he just needs huge font for his old weary eyes to see at 4:30 in the morning, I for one was happy to see him posting without insulting me in some way. But that came later in the thread..so if your out there somewhere and see some decrepid old guy with PERFECT hair not catching fish , say hi to him. But speak loudly, his hearing aint what it used to be since the Cher concert tour he went on.
