Navionics App for iphone.
I am looking at getting the navionics app for my iphone. However, i remember seeing something on SB about what i think was another company that had extremely detailed bottom structure/depths etc... I am not sure if it was navionics or not. Im thinking of using the app to help when fishing new spots from shore and id like to get an idea of the structure close to shore. Also, having it on the times i get out on a boat would be pretty nice. Any suggestions on Apps, how is the navionics one and what other options are out there? Thanks guys.

What I find useful being a Verizon subscriber: this ap downloads the maps to the phone and as long as you have GPS signal it still works even when not getting a phone signal...which is most of the time on the water with Verizon "Can you hear me now"?

It is cool and does the basics but there is a room for improvement. ( There are numerous improvements I can think of but one that really bothers me is...I would like to store waypoints (permanently) more easily and lots of them, also I would like and easy way to text or email them to someone else)
Makes a great back up to your back up. OR a back up when on someone else boat. (personally I think it is better than some of the older small units installed on some boats I have been on)
For the $ it is unreal and supports my logic that computers should be on boats and you buy software. Buying a "Box" with buttons that has no upgrade path is dumb as it has a fixed lifespan (short)

Jim,
there is a new version which allows you to upload stored waypoints to the internet, so when you upgrade phone you can move all the waypoints! I upgraded phone earlier this year and found out no way to transfer waypoints from one phone to next with the old version (Nav tech support). I now actually have both old/new running on my phone. The "old" to show all my non-movable waypoints and the "new" to remark the location so I can upload/save. The new version is "US East" and I think cost me another $4.95 to download.
Nav maps are definitely better than those loaded on the Garmin small units!

I've got it on my iphone and agree. it's awesome, though I haven't spent enough time learning to use it.
A few questions..
Anyone using it on an ipad ?
Having a bigger screen would be very helpful.
Is there a way to punch in lat + lon for a spot I want to check out from home ?

Ronnie click search then lat/lon

I have hundreds of waypoints in mine, it's pretty simple if you ask me.
and if you want to text them to someone else, just capture a screenshot picture and send them the picture.

I noticed on mine, that there is a "navigation" upgrade to enter in waypoints, calculate fuel consumption and time of arrival.

Ooops had it backwards, US East is the old version that doesn't sync, go here to buy/download:
Mobile & PC App | Navionics
Marine&Lakes: USA Version 2.5.9
I haven't necessarily figured it all out yet....

Got it Mike.
I've actually done that a few times, just didn't remember.
Would be great to view on a large screen !
I see an Ipad in my future.
Buzz must have one he's getting ready to upgrade and give away the old one !
He gives away enough free stuff in the classifieds here

Wonder if he has the gopro linked to the ipad as a monitor so when he's got the gopro head harness on he can see what he's filming

Waypoint recovery works great since my old phone died and I just replaced it (under warranty), re-downed the ap, maps, and recovered all my waypoints.
Looks like I have lost forever the ~200 waypoints in US East version?
