Chris I don't have any idea what year it is. Maybe 2-3yrs old? I bought it last winter to use in Jersey to reach the outer bars and haven't used it. Disassembled checked and lubed. Search the other site for the reel. pix and more info under Diawa Emblen 12'rod and tica sceptre gx8000. B&S forum.

the reason i ask is this reel is highly underrated, its a mexico rooster fish staple, but a few years ago they changed the metal that they were using for the main gear and its not up to the task of stripers never mine roosters.
If its 3 years old you have yourself a great long distance ree, i already called a buddy about this thread. he swears by that reel.

I remember reading about the gear problem also Chris. The reels that had gear problems were if I remeber correctly replaced or repaired. Going by the thread when i bought it was it was 2 years old or so. I don't know if anyone has a definitive way (serial #) to find out if the gear is the good one.

Still for sale. Dropped to 65.00 shipped. Beautiful reel. I went through the reel , super lubed and ready to go. Bought for particular areas requiring throwing over 2nd bar. Never went to either this year.I'll to retake a photo to post if anyone wants to see.
