Plug Swap Auction #1 Blond Terror Norris Jet Squid
This is a continuation of the fundraising activities for Maco Joe. All the guys involved in the 2013 Plug Swap that is wrapping up now.... built 3 plugs. 2 for the swap and one for auctioning to raise money for Joe...
Item # 1 is a reproduction of the EB Norris 8 inch Norris Jet Squid. Brad Norris came up with this design and made these Jet squids in several sizes in his Hyannis home shop. In the following pics you get to see an excellent article on the Norris plugs written by Frank Pintauro (RIP) and Dave Dennison. (Hunting & Fishing Collectibles Magazine) via the SWLCC website.
Home Page
My reproduction was made from a glue-up (waterproof Tite-Bond III) of tiger maple and red cedar. Maple is a heavier wood (bottom section) while red cedar is very light and buoyant. The plug is weighted just like the originals were weighted (Thank you Capesams). The plug does not have an epoxy clear coat... it was sealed and has 3 coats of satin polyurethane on it. It fishes like a great spook.
It has stainless steel cotter pin rigging with VMC 4/0 trebles and a stainless eyescrew line tie.
You can choose to fish it (I hope so) or hang it...
Chris

so, never seen the plug design before, very cool, but was wondering what that metal piece is on top of the head? Really cool. Sorry Ross...$30.

The unique design uses cotter pins instead of screw eyes or thru -wire/swivels to attach the hooks. Brad Norris used what he had available at the time... cotter pins... and some yankee ingenuity.

Very cool! Curious how much the cotter pins are rated for?

That plug belongs hung on a mantelpiece. It's gorgeous, and I'd wanna puke if I lost it.
