Considering a new vehicle- truck/SUV
I think it's about time for my current fish mobile to be retired. I love the old girl, and she's treated me well. But lets face it- a sedan isn't the best choice for transporting fishing gear, not to mention accessing said spots. At 142k miles I think it's time to start considering a new ride while I have some trade in value, and before the turbo blows (knock on wood). I REALLY don't want to get back into debt, but I think I should be proactive before repair bills start to mount.
My previous car was a Toyota- I was very happy with it. Considering a Tacoma or a 4runner- but looking for any input, really. I'm thinking V6, 4WD a necessity. If I go pickup I'd like a large bed to haul crap in, and would probably pop a cab onto it so I could sleep there if needed.
Any experience out there with the above models? Or a different ones that I should be considering? Looking for something after 2006, and don't really want to spend more than 25k.

My neighbors wife is elling her Highlander. She is a retired schoolteacher. Just bought a 2010 jeep wrangler off them for my son,6000 miles on it. I am sure this vehicle would be well cared for so let me know if you want specifics Kevin.

Other then the price I don't think there's any way you wouldn't fall in love with a Tacoma. On the flip side though you'll appreciate the way they hold their value.
You could always bump up to a Tundra if you needed the space.
Never heard anyone complain about a 4-Runner either, although the price once again stings a bit.

I've been looking at the RAV 4's recently...my truck is at 185k right now and its time. They are 4 wheel drive, rack for the yak, and room in the back for gear. Mileage is good as well, which I need due to my commuting to Maine to work.
Kind of a small SUV

Amazing all the tacoma love. I like the 4runner as well but it's 10k more and would significantly up my insurance. Tacoma increase would be negligible. Guess I need to do some test drives.
It will be nice to shop for a car and not NEED it. Should be able to get a decent price if I shop around a bit.

I would consider getting some kind of pick-up. Just because my subaru really starts to get ripe if some eel slime drips in the rear cargo space or god forbid I am transporting herring or something and some juice leaks out. I have a rubber mat for the trunk space so it's easy to clean, but sometimes I think it would be easier to have a truck and not have to deal with getting into the car on a hot day and getting hit with a smell that can choke a mule!
