Frying pan burnt on bottom
I clean the dishes so I should have paid more attention to the issue with this one pan bottom. It has a smooth bottom, no ridges, and is black or tarnished, or whatever, and needs to be cleaned because it is bugging me. Other than a mornings worth of elbow grease any ideas on a solution or compaound that can be applied to speed cleaning the pan?

Buy some star-San. It's a cleaner for beer brewing. Fill up a 5 gallon bucket and leave the pan in it over night. It should be sparkling after.

When you say pan "bottom" I'm assuming you mean the bottom of the pan and not the inside.
What kind of metal is it? Assuming stainless then Barkeepers Friend is about the best option. Anything else will scratch the hell out of the pan...if it's bad this will take a lot of work though. Perhaps it's better left as character.

Smear left over spaghetti sauce on it and let it sit for a couple of hours

teflon pans go in the trash as the teflon gives off fumes
real bad for ya too
the only true pan is a cast iron
the rest are stainless steel (i call them simmer pans)
because with the cast iron ....you can bake things in them.
