Some did and others didn't. The Creek Chub line had quite a few variations on body size and hook arrangement. Way back when when you could still find a few in the box I fished a couple bigger ones and they gurgled along right on top, I also fished a smaller one of the three sizes they made and it dove right down. I you can find it look for the 2nd edition of the Creek Chub Collectors guide they have a great section on surfsters. A lot of builders build a deep diving Danny Body and put a surfster lip on it and call it a surfster. They ain't the same, the real surfster body is way different. Check it out. BTW, I still have a beater large surfster that I fish with now and then.
