What a lot of guys lose sight of is, what's on the end of your line is more of a factor than your gear.

Stuff like sinkers, metal, plugs like Roberts Rangers and so on, you can cast them to another zip code.

There's only so far that a Bomber, a big metal lip, a plastic shad, or even a bucktail jig with a lot of hair and a chunk of pork flapping in the breeze is gonna fly, no matter what you throw it on.

Even good casting plugs are only gonna go so far. I know some guys who can chuck it who fish the Canal. Guys fish directly across from each other all the time. In all the time I've fished there, I've never seen two guys cross lines across the Canal. In some places the Canal is less than 600' across at dead low. If everyone casts 100 yards with a Polaris, you should see guys cross lines over the width of the Ditch every day.
