People regularly do that at the shop here. Kids grabbing $600 fly rods, surf rods, etc. I'm just waiting for the day a kid grabs a plug on the wall and gives it a good yank. I suppose it will be my fault the kid has hooks in his hands. Of course, if I see it happening and I mention it I'M the bad guy...
