I'd bet most harbors, especially those with deeper waters, warm water discharges from power plants and larger river systems have hold over stripers. You might want to ask your local tackle shops about opportunities in your area, they would be the ones to know. I fish all winter long, but for me it means a 1-1/2 hour ride (boat in tow) one way (3 hours total) and breaking through some ice sometimes. Hey I'm an addict and damn proud of it. I post all winter long, because I'm always looking for company. It saves on the gas (tow vehicle mostly) and it's also nice to have someone to talk to on the ride. To date I've had slip, bm, johnr, schoolie monster, steve from mass, jenn, gb outdoors, drew (lurker mostly) and clamdigger down for some winter fishing GS style.

It's light tackle, 6-8 lb mono, graphite rods in the 6-1/2 to 7 foot range a must, smaller spinning reels are ok, vertical presentation in 20-40 feet of water. I use 3/8 Kalin or Owner jigheads, sometimes 1/2 oz if the current is running or I need more depth, and my 4-1/2 inch split tail in smoke. It's mostly twinkie fishing, but I catch keepers routinely. Just ask GB outdoors and Drew, they hit it on a big bass bite one day which was really fun. Early in the season before the real winter has set in, I've caught them to 35lbs on live hickory shad, if you can keep the blues away long enough to get a big bass interested. I hope I get some new players interested this year, love to fish with new guys/gals all the time and also expose them to the finesse side of the game.

Tight lines.
