Here's my take:

It's worth it to drop the family off at the beach. The beaches are very nice and they will have a good time. I tend to agree more with #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, however, that fishing during the daytime just isn't ideal and isn't the best time to fish seriously for striped bass. Now, having said that, you may want to to what Nebe indicated and throw a chunk off and isolated spot on the beach/rocks b/c you never know what you'll catch. If anything, its worth it for you to scout out during the day, take some notes and return in the future when you know the area better

If your ferry arrives in front of Ballard's restaurant. Your family can beach out front and you can walk south (Left off the ferry) for a couple miles.
Bring a few poppers and a pair of breathable waders. Heck, you may find some of DZ's lime green needles washed up on the shore.

Have fun and enjoy
