Personally, I would tie direct to my main line. With good line and a properly set drag, I'm have little fear of getting chopped off. From what I've been told and shown by some tuna crazy people (FW & BC) the less the better...

The rod and reel should be OK ( I haven't used that line before)... I use an 8' G-Loomis with an ABU 5500C3 conventional spooled with 15# Big Game green and it works great with 3/4 to 1.5 oz metals. Your gear should be OK to although with a slightly lighter reel like the 4500 you may need to chase them around a bit... I'm building an 8' St Croix Spinning to try out and hope to have that done in time...
