I would take a real good look at his odd-ball hub-cap. Chances are, if it came off your truck and on to his...you should be able to tell. There would be fresh markings on it (finger-prints on residual break-dust/dirt build-up)...smudges from being put on his wheel, or fresh markings from being "tapped" back on...if all of his hubcaps appeared to be recently wiped down, I'd assume he did it and tried to cover his tracks.
But If one of his matched yours exactly...??? Sure, he could probably pry it off without leaving marks...but unless he had a rubber mallet and strategically hit it....you'd know or should know.

What would I do once convinced?? Dunno, I'm not one to say "I wouldla done this or I woulda done that"...once the switch flips in my head, it's out of my hands and control.

In fact there were fresh marks where it had been pried off and it did match mine exactly.
