Unhappy reel repair

I have a +/- 40 year old Daiwa salt water reel, might be #4000 (emblem warn off). Works great but I cannot get the metal side plate off to grease the gears. Slot in head of one of the screws is mashed and screw is recessed. The screws are very tiny. Any suggestions other than getting a new reel?
