In my opinion, I think that the key to fishing with teasers is rigging the leader correctly. Otherwise, the teaser will continually wraps around the main line, and if you use braid, you can kiss any good fish that hits the teaser goodbye along with the teaser. Like the big lapinski said, use as long of a leader as you're comfortable with - I usually use around 4-5 feet. About six inches down from a swivel tie in a dropper loop. Some people I've seen will tie the teaser into a longer dropper loop, keep a number of leaders statically rigged with different teasers in a leader wallet, and change out the whole leader if they want to change teasers. I find it easier to tie in a short 1-2 inch dropper loop, and tie the teaser onto a 12 inch piece of flourocarbon with a loop knot to the teaser, and a loop on the other end. That way it's really easy to change teasers. However, the main factor is the dropper loop on the main leader - it stops the teaser from getting wrapped up.

I almost exclusively fish with plugs, and the teaser is a way of life for me. Lots of times the fish are on really small bait, and the ONLY thing that they'll take will be one particular teaser in your bag. I had one night this summer when the bass were on micro sandeels, and fifty yards out. I had a 6 inch sluggo on a 3/4 leadhead with a small epoxy sandeel teaser. I probably caught 30 fish that night, and I'd say 29 of 30 hit the teaser.

If you plug fish, I advise fishing with a teaser.
