I don't think line color makes a huge difference. Most mono, when put in water, becomes pretty clear anyway. But I have usually stuck with clear or moss green color. The point is to make the line as invisible as possible. This is what makes flourocarbon lines popular, though their merits and advantages over mono are debatable. I think Trilene Big Game 20# is the most popular line.

For bait hooks I like the premium Mustad baitholder hooks for clams and worms, premium Mustad short shank beak hooks for live bait, and Gamakatsu octopus or circle hooks for chunks. You will find that the Gami's are very popular in the striper crowd.

For hooks on lures I like VMC Siwash and Mustad saltwater trebles.
