Back home from work, adding to the list.
For living composers I think much of John Adams work is first rate; he's American, which is rare in this field. Harmonium, a choral work by him, is well worth having.
Debussy orchestral music is a must have.
Mahlers Ninth, a massive two CD piece, that'll blow the soul apart is highly recommended. I'd get the one conducted by Karajan, which Grammophone has on CD.
J.S. Bach---Cantatas 170, 82, 159. Get the one with Janet Baker singing. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful, even though I understand zero German.
Here are three for Lapinski. I don't want him to think I'm a weirdo. Both Chemical Brothers albums 'Dig Your Own Hole' and 'Surrender,' are great for a heavy electronica sound. And Roni Size 'Reprazent,' which is, in my opinion, the greatest drum-and- bass album ever recorded.
