It depends on what kind of bait you're using. Squid and clams I find you can just leave out to thaw and are still effective, but any kind of small bait fish like spearing, shad, killie, etc. just fall apart easily when left out in the sun to thaw. I haven't tried any bigger baits like bunker (menhaden; pogy) chunks or herring so I can't help you there if that's what you're using. Most of it is trial or error. You have to find what works for what kind of bait you're using.

When I caught my first bass I was hooked more than the fish.
