Early gift.... post rut action

On Monday I seen this buck approx.150 yrds away , deep in a swamp he was with a doe. I put him in the cross hairs twice and the bolt would not fall…WTF. I had cleaned my gun after every shot this year but with heavy rain and snow falling off branches as I brushed up against caused the bolt to cease not to mention the powder itself is very corrosive. I then took the climber in, set it up and waited for an east wind. By 8 this morning my toes where feeling numb so I took off my boots and popped in the toe warmers, Thank God! At around 9ish I spot this 8pt with his nose down low covering a lot of ground searching for doe’s in heat. I had missed a piebald and a gun jam on a buck so this morning I kept telling myself to be patience and not take a shot out of frustration , it was long shot in a small window. He’s not a big buck but I’m happy as hell to have taken him.

28 days after the rut, begins the post rut, which doesn’t last as long nor is as intense as the rut itself. On Monday when I seen this buck he was hot on a doe then on my walk back in the dark, twice I could smell strong tarsal. This is the time when doe’s that did not get bread during the rut now come into estruse, mother nature is perfect. This morning my brother and I followed the bucks tracks before I shot him and another indictation is that he is urinating on his tarsals as he walks, the only reason we know this is the evidence in the snow. The post rut actually started a few days before the full moon but I believe it is was more important that I was in an area that was thick which means no pressure. Bucks will not let their guard down especially during gun season.

I called GB after the gun mis-hap he assured me I’ld see him again and think positive….your right twice because the API has mojo.
