New RI State Fishing Pier Propopsal

The Newport Daily News reported yesterday that the Midway Pier site on Burma Road in Middletown has been listed as the top site for relocating the now defunct Jamestown Bridge Fishing Pier Proposal. DEM has endorsed the site.
The Midway site was listed as #1 of 22 different sites in RI.
What makes this site attractive is it is close to pristine water, has good fishing attributes and, the area has already been endorsed as a recreational fishing site in Aquidneck Island's West Side Plan.
If all goes well this will be where our new state fishing pier is built.
I have fished the area for many years. It offers great fishing. I used to fish the old navy owned wooden pier on the same site (since removed) and took many bass and bluefish from it along with mackeral, flounder, tog, and occasional bonita.
