Red face rear hook

I don't make plugs, but I'm curious. Why are all the plugs with a single rear hook, made with the point closest to front of the hook [while hanging] rather than in the opposite direction? It seems that you would get more hook-ups with the point going away from the plug. The bass is coming up to hit it, and will then dive down. Is the reason because "that's the way we've always done it? Thank's in advance.
