I decided that even though it was a full moon I was going to hit the surf last night and give it a try. With the loss of Habs I decided to forgo the eels and cast plugs from a spot that looked Pluggy :- )
I don't know if he was watching over me but I started to catch a few fish all smalls. After an hour I caught a 33'' fish which was nice and nice to release. Next cast a huge hit! Water sprayed all over the place. Strangely though the line went slack and I had to reel like crazy until I had her tight like 15 ft in front of me. Then the fish realized it was hooked and took off. It dumped about 100 yards off my spool and I finally stopped it. From there it was basically a stand still for at least 10 minutes. Finally I got it up on shore and it's a 42.5 inch bass. The moon was SO BRIGHT! this fish was just beautiful laying there. (who said you can't catch during a full moon?)
I caught my new PB about a month ago 41 inches this one was a little bigger. I still didn't have a scale, I'm not sure if I broke the 30# mark, but It's still another rung on the ladder for me. It was really gratifying to catch it on a plug and being inspired to toss it cause of the late HABs made it even better!
My roommate took a picture, once I get it I'll post it here.
PS screw the vineyard, the fish are up North
