Rainshadow 1209 with that reel will be able to land Moby #^&#^&#^&#^&! Its a lot of rod to start conventional with but for the heavier weights you mention, it will flex some so you should be able to cast well.

Put in 2 brakes , set the tension knob so that the reel only turns once or twice ofter the sinker hits the ground if you let it go at shoulder height , go to a beach with wind blowing sideways and practice. In no time you'll have the tension totally off and casting into , with , or across the wind however you want.

You are goin g to love the feeling of having the conventional once you hook up. You are in control way more than you would be with most spinners.
