Do you think this record will ever fall? The more time that goes by, the more Ted Williams looks like the last to hit .400. With all the middle relievers, set up men, and closers that a guy has to face today as well as playing late night games and lots of travel, I think this one may stand forever.
If it ever does fall it will probably be by a singles hitter with lots of speed, but certainly not a guy who could hit for power like Teddy Ballgame. In 1941 he hit .406 , 37 HR's and 120 RBI's.
PS. Curt Gowdy called Williams the best all around fisherman he ever saw.
