shotgun for home and get yourself a .22 rifle for the range. Both can be had for under $200 each. .22 is cheap to shoot too. Unless you are getting a rifle in a pistol caliber it is to much power for home defense especially if you have neighbors. (Unless they are the ones you are defending against??).
