I've kept eels for a week on vacation doing the following... put eels in tuperware/plastic container w/ice. make sure there are holes in the container so it can drain. Put container in cooler, elevated so it can drain... I've kept them for a week doing this. Just make sure as stated they stay damp cold and dark.
