Is This Fish the New World-Record Landlocked Atlantic Salmon or a Trophy-Class Brown Trout? | Field & Stream

Same thing happen to me...not with my world record salmon, but with the 10+ brown I caught this year.......... After catching the fish, I contacted Masswildlife with pics of the fish and asked if it was enough to except it as a brown...I knew it what it was but just wanted to make sure that this was legit....A month later I get a call after my paper work makes it to westborough that some of the biologist belive it to be a salmon............By this time I had decided to have a repo of the fish done because of no $$$ to spend on a mount. I had told my dad to eat it. He was happy and said that he was taking it out of the freezer the next day. this was a week after I caught it..........Back to the story, so I was told that the fish could not be excepted as a brown trout(now the state clearly prints that all brown trout must be examined by a biologist before able to be entered which I completely comply with and was the reason for my email to them and have no problem there)......now I could care less about the pin, but the part that hurt was that my integraty or how ever you spell it(if I even have one) was on the line..clearly some one like me should know the diffrence between the two, which can be very difficult at times and even I can sometimes second guess my self. So I now get of the phone and really start to think that one of my greatest catches, I can no longer legitly say I did. I then started to think and decided to call my dad the seagull and see if by any chance my fish was spared and if it made a great meal..lol...Well luckily my brother had showed up with some fresh cod fillets the next day and my dad stuck the fish back in the freezer....Talk about luck. After hearing this I hung up and made a few phone calls and took my fish to Steve Hurley at Mass wildlifes south east district which is just down the street from me. I was that Greg from the sandwich hatchery was in there as well. After about an hour of testing and pictures they came to the conclusion that it was indeed a Brown trout and at 10lbs 6oz is my biggest Ma brown. For me this is huge, as I have been trying to break the double digit mark for years...So I kind of know what this guy is going thru.....sorry to bore you all with such a long story.
