Thru-drilling with a Drill Press

I know that alot of you thru drill with your lathes.....how many do it with a drill press? I am having a ton of trouble with my thru-drilling using my drill press still.....my lathe has a mt#1 taper, and I am having trouble finding a chuck with that taper....most are mt#2....so I guess my question is, what types of tricks or jigs do you guys use to be more efficient? the drill bits I have are either too long or too short to use with the press....I usually can figure this stuff out but, this one has me baffled..I used the search in the forum but....I am missing something on this...any help or suggestions? Thanks !!
