I hate these reports!

This kind of news really upsets me. I'm sorry for their loss. Kids generally don't know their limits, especially in situations they've never experienced before or alone. Adults do know better, or if they don't, plain and simply they should've done their homework. Too many times I read about so called "accidents" only come to find out they were caused by some other factor (speed, lack of experience, ignorance, alcohol, "we only left him for a second", etc.), which had the victim been in control of he would probably have survived. My girls have nicknames for me like Dr No and The Warden because they think I hold the reins too tight on them. But I look at a situation they're and say, "What could go wrong? What could possibly happen to them?" And then I tell them the limits and my reasons why. I don't agree with parents who use some credo like, "Well eventually all kids are going to fall and break something." Maybe, maybe not, but not on my watch and not if it's totally and obviously preventable. This is probably a big factor in why I don't get to fish more, but the fish will be there in a few years when they grow up and their own common sense kicks in, however by then they'll be boy hungry and I'll have to protect them for other reasons.
