Went out Saturday in the fog... I made my way out to some rocky isles after my daughter filled the livewell with herring. I had some eels as well and I set out a herring and an eel, then started tossin' ledgerunners into the rocks.

I shortly was into a nice fish on a jerkbait... Brit took a brief turn but the fish was a little much for her. It was 37" and very thick. I'd say upper teens, maybe 20lbs. It was a future hawg. I had lost a bunch of fish in a row, so I was happy to break the cycle. About two casts later, I was into another nice fish that felt about the same. I handed the rod over to the kid and she put some muscle into this time. Unfortunately, it came unglued after some nice runs.

I thought we were gonna have a killer morning, but it got kinda spotty after that. She lost a schoolie at the boat and I had a couple more fish on briefly, including one that was low 30" range. So, she took the skunk (although she enjoyed catching the herring and pitched in on the one I landed).

I didn't have a run on eels or herring.

All the fish were very tight to structure. I threw the bait into some really good rocks and let it work in there a while, but the 5 1/2" smoke split tail ledgerunner drew the hits. I think you had to cover some water.

Getting pretty frustrated with losing fish. I know I handed off to my daughter, but the second fish was on for well over a minute and she had good pressure on it when it came off. The other fish I lost were hooked solid and on long enough to make runs. My hooks are good, sharp owner hooks. Its just bizarre. I'm starting not to believe myself with these stories of the one that got away. I'm not sure where to go with it or what to do to change my luck. Maybe just a heavier stick.

Other wierd thing... I got seasick for the first time that I remember in an open boat. There were slow rollers coming in and in the thick fog, I guess I didn't have a horizon to look at. I felt bad, I was yelling at my daughter cause she was babbling... that and the fog horn on the lighthouse with the smell of herring and bird poop and I was freakin' out. The only other time I remember being sick was a very stormy ferry ride to Nantucket where we were stuck in the cabin... it was about 80 degrees in there and the smell of yack was in the air from all the people yackin' in the bathroom. Blahhhhhh.

The air started to move a bit and I was fine with some water and some fresh air.
