that that previous thread of mine, quality vs quantity and daytime vs night got me thinking. Fished from 5 pm last night between Scituate and Cohasset harbors, my usual haunts and quit around 11:30. Had a ball right off the bat catching 10 nice 20-25 inch chunks off the first ledge I hit and as usual the hit my 7" split tail hand poured jerkbait. Continued working my way north, hitting all the ledges and humps I like and left the eels in my lifewell until around 8 pm. At that point I started dragging a live eel behind the boat with my 7 foot lami and 6500, while continuing to cast up front while keeping the trolling motor on constant low.

Several bumps on the eel but no pickups. Ran into a big school of nice 25-30 inch fish outside Cohasset and caught about 10 more nice ones on my plastic jerkbait. With all the nice fish around I was surprised to see my eel go unmolested until 9 pm. Then I had a nice battle with a 25 lb fish. No mistaking the big ones taking the eel, the clicker on the reel was screaming. Caught another 10 or so on the jerkbait up until I ran out of gas, but no more hits on the eels. Now this isn't any hard evidence to say that night time brought me bigger fish, because better than half of these fish were caught before sundown. I've also had countless morning bites with similar sized fish. I'm just glad I ran into a couple schools of actively feeding nice sized fish.

Perfect nigth, calm, beautiful sunset, active fish, good numbers and all nice fish, plus the one large to cap off the evening. Had so much fun, I'm planning a repeat tonight. Still, I do like my early morning, but fun getting out at night again.

Tight lines.
