August 31, 1954 Hurricane Carol-Where were you?

A 17 year old Lad of Cuttyhunk. Rode out the storm on the West side of the Fish Pier(this was before the apron on the West was built)on "Coot" Hall's "Eel" a 37 Foot Wm. Hand Designed power vessel. At 1000 Hrs L on that morning we were pushing the boat off of the Roof of the Fish Shanties. The water was just lapping at the top of the roof.
By 1500 Hrs L the wind had come round from the SE to the NW and the harbor was almost empty of water.
When the "eye" went by around noon we brought the "Eel" around to the East side of the Fish Pier and by 1500 she was sitting on the bottom cause all the water had gone out of the Harbor.
Could write more but that is just one highlite in my memory.
What are your memories of that Storm?

Capt. Chet
