flimsy
very light construction and materials
scale unreliable
corroded fast
fine as a super lightweight lip grip - but not as a scale. My berkley lip grip much more sturdy
get what you pay for! :-)

So, those of you that don't use a gripper with a scale, what do you carry for a scale?

A good estimate that is within a pound or 2 from a scale.

And what's the reason for a 30 pound boga for bass anyway? Kind of pointless?

Exactly. Unless its really big, what's the point of weighing it? If its not for a tournament, guesstimate based on length and girth. No need to hold the fish up by its mouth if you're planning on releasing it.

Who said anything about weighing a 30 lb fish?
Trying to decide between on a gripper of some sort and I'd like to be able to know when I crack a PB.
Big difference between 38 and 40. At least for me.

Get a digital scale and a plastic lip gripper. The gripper lets you handle the fish and release it safely. A digital scale lets you weigh it and get it back in the water quickly. The two together are much cheaper than a boga and less if a strain on the fish.

I'd hold it up against a real boga any day... really strong grip. the only thing that has ever gone wrong is the plastic tip fell off... big deal. if anyone can find me one for sale somewhere, I'll buy YOU one as well as a finder's fee!!! Cabelas had them 2 years ago with a baby blue handle, but they are gone now.... As long as I dont lose it, I trust it will last forever.

I have that exact same one. Got it at Ocean State Tackle about two years ago when they had a store in Coventry, RI. I believe that location closed, but he still has a place on Branch Ave. in Providence.
I'll PM you my address so you can send me one. (J/K - )
Hopefully he still has them in stock for you -
Dave
