those of you who trailer
My boat was in a sllip for 6 yrs and I basically trailered 2-3 times per year. I used to rinse off my trailer with freshwater and never noticed any corrosion.
Well I just brought my pathfinder in for service and they called and said its very rusty on the bottom, very bad. I had not noticed. Was this caused from the salt water trailerin? I trailer in freshwater now and sometimes Ive had to have the truck pretty far in the water to launch. Is the freshwater causing this? Do people rinse their vehicles after launcing?

I rinse both my trailer wheels/springs and rear wheels of the truck after EVERY day of use. Doesn't stop the corrosion just seems to slow it down? Got 5.5 yrs out of original hubs, well see how long the new ones last.

Your Texas mechanic probably isn't used to seeing any cars from new England that have driven on roads that are salted. I bet that's where the rust came from.

IMO thats not from trailerin, even if you trailered 5 times a week as long as your not burying your wheels in seawater and or drive out fast your good. It doesnt take much to corrode modern day metal, saltly roads has a much bigger impact. Look at truck bumpers on 10 year old trucks rusted to hell...no salt needed.

Might be on the vehicle but my boat trailer NEVER sees road salt!

Recall: Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX4 SUV for dangerous rust
Put New bearings and seal in trailer hubs this spring,,, looks like I could use a new axle,,, hauling her up to Attleboro this week,, always wanted to fish up that way,,, fingers crossed  |

Thanks guys, I bet you are right, road salt. It's 2006 and still seems brand new to me. Cost me 1800 to fix, new rotors, brackets, etc. I plan on getting a truck in a few years like everyone else in Texas.

my cousin just had a nissan suv declared as "totalled" from rust... its 7 years old!
