Either the tape is wrong or the scale is wrong. One or the other.

girth (in) X girth (in) * length (in) / 800 = approx weight in lb give or take a couple.
I have used this on fish from 40 to 300+ and it pretty darn close when I check it with a scale.

Hey Jim remeber that 57 in that came off Katama yrs back that only went 37lb. I weighed a 41 lb that went 46 in same time an took ist daily compared to a fish that shoulda gone 70 plus. They don't always match the math.

52 incher was weighted at a shop because it bottomed out a 30lb boga and the 48inch was bouncing the boga between 29\30 lbs...
I always thought an pound a inch when they got over 45 inches but I have found that not to be True and these 2 fish have reinforced inchs do not translate to weight

Keep in mind that the formula and rule of thumb both use fork length rather than total length. Seems nowadays everyone uses total length which adds a few inches on a big fish.

Excellent fish! I had a 48 inch fish last year that weighed in at 37#. Long and slim...., would have been 45#+ if I caught her in the fall instead of early June.

Finally a thread where everyone is claiming the fish are BIGGER than the original poster claims.... usually the 'experts' are bashing the fish for weighing less than the poster claims.
Nice work, great fish!

Thanks and I can not agree more . If your not fishing Eels at night in areas were you can your missing out .
eel +circle hook = Highest % of hook ups
I rarely drop a fish hooked with a circle hook and some nights One Bump is all I get but 9out of 10 times I hook up.. I cant say the same with a throwing red fin or chunk pogie (no circle with chunk)
Dont wait till Sept to start fishing Winters comming
