shotgun shell question
Is their a safe way to empty buck shot from a live shell? I have five shells and a need for twelve of them to weight some plugs. Is this idiocy or is it something that can be done safely?

cut around it at the crimped plastic end just below the crimp, pour out the shot. The wad and the powder will stay inside. Safe.

Take a utility knife and cut the shell just above the brass. Dump the powder out, pull the plastic wad out and dump the shot into your hand. I usually flush the powder so as not to have an accident.

What Fishpart stated, simple and safe. The cutting of shell and removing the powder to get to the pellets is like having a dentist go thru your butt hole to remove a tooth.

It worked just as you both said, cut just below the crimped area, lures are weighted, and filler is drying.

I have # 9 shot but I used that for the Cordells. My buddy had these older shells he didn't need so he brought them over. Now I have 45-12=33 "00" left for the other swimmers I have left to do, not including the mag darters.

If you find yourself at KTP you can pick up muzzle load shot....no FID required.

swimmer- I do it all the time.
You can also crimp around the top of the plastic shotgun shell with a channel lock pliers. this will enlarge the factory crimping and distort (enlarge) the opening. You should be able to pour out the shot inside. Takes about 15 seconds, and even less once you get the hang of it.
don't forget to properly dispose of the remaining shotgun shell that still has a primer and gun powder inside.

Yah, thats the problem now, half a shell left with primer and powder, but I did not feel like waiting.

the trap field at my club has thousands of #8 shot lead pellets on the ground by the curtains that we pull out to catch the shot (yeah the EPA makes us do this)
I could go round some up if anybody wants them!
