trailerwheel bearings

I have a question about my wheel bearings. These have not had many miles or dunks but are a couple years old.
this race looks a little burned, is it worth just getting new hubs at this point? They spun very nicely when I jacked it up.
maybe I could just pack some more grease in the bearing buddies and get another year???

Is that pitting in the race? Don't chance it, bring them to me I'll put new races in the hubs here. I'd rather do it here than on the side of the road..

Like Andy said just replace them not expensive. Those cheap Chinese bearings don't last very long. I change mine every other year races and bearings in the tin boat. The larger boat I buy good German bearings that last much longer. I always clean out old grease and repack every year, always, both boats. I also keep a spare hub with bearings for both boats in the truck. When I buy new hubs every few years I just set up an old one with old bearings cleaned and repacked for the emergency that may happen. All it takes is one fried bearing on side of road to make you smarten up.

Slip,,, Just re did mine,,, races and bearings,, probably did not need to but why chance it. I trailer (travel) quite a lot and sitting on the side of 495 with smoke poring out of the wheels is no fun ....
Also replaced axle, springs and hardware ,,, almost ready

I'd change that whole Hub Slip. I carry spares bearings. Lost a bearing last Dec on last trip with Buzz and changed out the bearing in the boat ramp parking lot in a few mins. Got some 2 new hubs over the winter and just changed them.

Paul, Where do you get those german bearings? I'm sick of the junk ones.

ya I will buy new hubs with bearings and keep one of these in the truck for a spare.

so it has a 3/4" diameter axle/shaft, is that all I need to know to get new ones? and where do I get these new chinese junk hubs?

I would go with the better bearings like Paul also, but they will just get ruined in the salt water also in short time.

prbuzz went to different packing system I think it's oil based not grease that keeps all water out via positive pressure.

When the inner seal goes on the hub you can have a timebomb just waiting

Bring the bearings with you, i'll knock the races out and you can match up the part #s. Timken bearings will be fine.

I use this company for most of my trailer stuff. The have pretty much everything.
I am sorry they were timken bearings made in usa. Got them at the above store.

Bruce the Chinese stuff is fine for your light boat and my tin boat. Use the above company or Northern or West Marine. They are pretty cheap.

ok, but how do I figure out if I have 1", 1-1/16" or 1-3/8" bearings?
it is a 5 lug hub.

maybe I'll bring one down to the auto parts store uptown tomorrow

Got the bearings done

Got the Honda motor back from shop - new impeller new lower end oil, new fuel filters, new gas tank and hose this year, also bought a new electric trolling motor for real skinny water. Just need to pick up a battery now
Then get my rods in shape check line organize gear
Talk about last minute

Can't wait to get out on the water again
