Yes the line lay is much better and the drag looks and feels better.It has that "clicker" in the drag knob like you see on other reels and looks to be sealed a little better.Didn't test the drag on a fish though.
So yeah, it seems an improvement over the old VS, but personally I never had an issue with the line lay, other than it looked a little funny.
My only concern might be the durability versus the old tried and true version.
