Thanks guys.
Great teamwork clearing the spread while I played! If you notice, we get a lot done on the boat handling side (done by tautog) with hand signals and a word or two... Given the 5ft casting leader I had on that rod, I call it close enough for a release, at least on Valhalla Rising. A long ride for 12 minutes of playing with a fish, surrounded by lots of dead trolling time, but that's canyon fishing...

Set-up was a VS250, Penn Rampage 7ft 20-50 spinning rod, 65lb Power Pro. Leader was 130lb. If you ever have doubts about how much heat you can put on that type of gear in the surf, don't. We troll at 10-12lb or so of drag; this was well over 20lb, plus fingering the spool as I was trying to bring it up from straight up and down.
