Conservatives don’t oppose single payer because we are heartless. This fight isn’t mainly about tax rates, or deficits, though single payer is catastrophic for both. It’s about having not the cheapest health care, but the best. So that when you need a hospital bed, the market makes sure you don’t have to wait until it’s too late. So that when you have a rare disease, there is hope that the market found it worthwhile to develop a treatment. That might mean that when you have medical issues, money is a worry. You get scary bills. But you have hope. If the treatment is available, but the money is not, that can be fixed. If the health care is free, but the government doesn’t permit you to receive it…well, that’s a cruelty we don’t want to see replicated in the United States.

No conservatives don’t oppose single payer because we are heartless.

they oppose it because there is no money to be made no pay no treatment ... love the fear of the government angle... right to the base with that one

Are you saying that there is no money to be made under a single payer system?

Are you saying that there is no payment made under a single payer system?

What do you mean by "the base"? Is there not a "base" that supports single payer? Does pointing out that there may be a "base" that supports something automatically make that something wrong? Would that not make everything wrong since everything has a "base"? What's your point in referring to a base? Is that some easy way out of actually and rationally discussing a subject?

Is there a general "fear of government angle" in the opinion piece? Or is there the "angle" that government shouldn't do and pay for all things? That the free market can create a better health care system than one controlled by a central government? And why do you refer to it as an "angle"? Is that, again, a way to dismiss the opinion without having to discuss it?

Oh my, yes. When you put the word "public" in front of something, don't we all immediately assume it's vastly superior to the private sector counterpart? Public schools, public golf courses, public parks, public bathrooms...we all know they are all superior to what's available in the private sector.

I cannot wait until the people who work at the motor vehicle department, are making healthcare decisions for my family.
