AVE MARIA CHARTERS *KICKS ASS!*
Just wanted to tell you what a great time Notaro, Gloucester2, Bassmaster and I had on Saturday fishing with Ave Maria Charters.
Our quarry was offshore cod. This trip came with JohnR's strong recommendation.
It was stoopid fishing - cod, haddock, cusk, and even a ling. Relatively few dogfish.
We not only filled the cooler but had to use the live well to hold all our fish!
In addition to the numerous keeper-sized cod, we boated 4 whale cod that were in the 30-40 lb. range. There were also a handful that pushed 20 lbs. It was a lot of work pulling them off the bottom in 250-300 feet of water!
By the end of the trip, we were all covered in cod and haddock crap - no kidding.
Kudos to Bassmaster, who nailed a few nice cod on a pink BM needlefish plug. Also, we appreciated him toughing it out when he got severely seasick midway through the trip. Not one single complaint out of him even as he was
I would also note that Gloucester2 is a veritable cod assassin - he boated two of the estimated 35 lb. cod. The man is dangerous with a 20 oz jig!
I think Notaro got a good workout.
Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day with great company. Thanks to Captain Mike Bousaleh and capable mate Chubsdad for an awesome time on the water! I recommend them without hesitation.

Chubsdad tied BM's needle to the dropper loop, anchored by 17 oz cod jig.

I dunno John - those guys with the 50+ stripers on the front page worked hard for their fish. Captain Mike made it real easy for us, as long as we could keep cranking. I've never been so sore in my life.
Mike - you're bad...!

Hey guys, when I lost my balance on the way, I was standing asleep.
Anyway, back to fishing, Ben is an excellent cod fisherman. He knew what he was doing. G2 has a ton of patience and nailed those over 39 lbs cods.
Mike B and Chubsdad, you guys are greatest. I'm going to have you guys charter my trip for stripers or flounders. I lost a bet to Bassman18 and paying the price now.
And yesterday was my last day of the fishing season. I doubt that I can keep my words true on that one.

I'm back
I had back-to-back trips this weekend
and I'm hurting today. The trips saturday and Sunday were both awesome - but different. Saturday with WeeWee, Notaro and Bassmaster there was much comeraderie to go with the great fishing. Sunday I fished with a bunch of "quiet types" but the fishing was different too. We were only ten miles off the beach and bailed pollock up to 24 lbs and cod to 30 lbs - in 90' to 100' of water ! Not a bad way to spend the weekend.
Pictures of our escapades to follow . . . DARE ME, GO AHEAD JUST DARE ME TO DO IT BM
Now its off for some tog . . .
