Summer flounder Rant

Effective Wednesday, October 1, the commercial summer flounder possession limit for all gear types will increase to 5,000 pounds. This increase occurs automatically upon the Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) determining that at least 10% of the state’s commercial summer flounder quota will remain available on October 1. Current quota monitoring information, which includes commercial landings reported through September 20, indicates that roughly 27% of the state’s 2025 quota remains available.Fluke: All Gear 1/1/ - 4/22 Sun - Sat 14 in.

how about lowering the rec harvest size also from
Min: 17.5". to 14 in

I hate this nonsense. same thing for Bass. if you don't meet the quota. shut it down don't extend it ... do they even consider this is the reason they didn't get the quota in the 1st place. they keep extending dead lines.

Yes, seems to be a sad state of affairs. I got out 3 times this season (3 more times than most seasons ;-) on a neighbors boat in LI Sound. I targeted fluke during the mid tides each trip and caught nothing but very small shorts the first trip. Went to deeper water 2nd trip and pulled in one at 18". Got skunked on trip 3 yesterday.

I can remember limiting out in an hour in vineyard sound back in the early 2000's. Fluke is one of my favorite fish to eat. Always loved pulling in a surprise keeper while trolling deep for stripers. Maybe one day again.....
