Karl,

Fireline is good (say, 20 lb).

I have power pro 30 on my Penn Slammers and they work quite well.

Some caveats to avoid wind knots with Power Pro:

1) Don't overfill the spool, leave at least 1/8 inch clearance.
2) Try not to reel in on a slack loop - try to tighten some line on spool before retrieving.

To avoid breakoffs:

3) Occasionally cut back 6 or so feet of line (at least the part that rubs against the tip on repeated casts - it gets weakened).
