Best fish of the year came in October on my first trip ever to a Cape Cod beach at night. I've fished the canal for ten years, but never really got into fishing the beach but was prodded by my brother to give it a try. I was casting eels at 2:15 am and I must have hit this fish in the head with the eel, cause as soon as the eel hit the water I felt the hit. The fish did not want to stop and I thought I was going to be spooled, the fish finally stopped and turned. After a short while I managed to get her near shore and realized the size of the fish and that I had to work with the surf to land this fish. The fish gods were smiling on me as they produced a nice wave that pushed the fish onto the beach. The fish was 48" and 35.5lbs. Not bad for my first fish on the beach! I will be back for more!
