Also too early for me as well, still have another month or so to go here in CT & RI and hope it will get better as we have just started to see some "blitz" conditions here in CT.
But so far I have put in more hours and caught more fish than ever from the surf including my biggest ever caught from the surf (low 30lb range). So I would rate it as good so far, but it could become great depending on what happens in the next month.
As far as compared to last year, I thought the heat killed the fishing last year so I think this year has been better.
