But someone told me that if the current is running, the 6500 wont hold or isnt rugged enough for the structure and fish?

I know a few guys who use 6500s to fish stripes and do alright at the Ditch. If you want to chunk bass with the same reel then go for the 7000CL as it is a great reel. Just a little large for fluke to me. I guess it is a matter of what rod you are going to use it on. You don't need to hit the middle to catch fluke. Some of the old timers use big set ups for fluke down there but to me it is over kill for a 5 or 6# fish. I'm just trying to help you out with options as a 6500 is a lot easier to find than a Big Game 7000CL and probably cheaper too.

Thanks. Everyone has different opinions and expensive tastes. 6500 sounds good. I will buy it soon. I just bought a 7000cl.

Joe why don't you go with the new BG7000HSN make sure the Pinion gear has been changed. That is an awsom reel you can even upgrade with the bronz side plates .
