If you write or call West Systems they will send you out a brochure that has more information about their products than you will want to read. Ive got it in front of me and heres what they say about thinning their EPOXY:
"West Systems epoxy can be thinned with solvents for greater penetration, but not without the same compromise in strength and moisture resistance. Acetone, Toluene or MEK have been used to thin West Systems epoxy.
"If you choose to thin West Systems epoxy, keep in mind that strength and moisture protection of the epoxy are lost in proportion to the amount of solvent added."
"Theye is a better solution to get good penetration without losing strength or moisture resistance. We recommend moderate heating of the repair area and the epoxy with a heat gun or heat lamp. The epoxy will have a lower viscosity when it is warmed and contacts the warmed wood."
"Although the working life of the epoxy will be considerable shortened, slower hardeners (206,207,209) will have longer working times than the 205 hardener.
Excerpts taken from the West Systems User Manual & Product Guide. Hope this helps people using West Systems epoxy. It seems that it will flow easier but cure faster when heated, so the slower hardeners can be added to counteract the addition of heat.
